We caught up with Dawn O’Sullivan, the promoter of the upcoming Pure Elite European Championships, which will take place in Waterford, Ireland on September 13th, 2025. A former Pure Elite athlete herself, Dawn shares her excitement, top tips for travel and accommodation, and why this year’s show is set to be something truly special.
Tanya (Interviewer):
For those who don’t know, you’re running the Pure Elite Ireland show. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and what to expect?
Dawn O’Sullivan:
Yes, of course. I’m Dawn O’Sullivan and I’m from Waterford in Ireland, which is where the Pure Elite European Championships will be held this year, on September 13th, 2025. I’ve been a Pure Elite athlete myself for many years, so it’s incredibly exciting to now be promoting the show in my hometown.
Tanya:
That’s amazing. We’ve had a lot of questions from competitors and spectators about getting to the venue. What are the best travel options?
Dawn:
There are two main airports I’d recommend: Cork Airport and Dublin Airport. Dublin is definitely the most convenient, it has a direct bus route to Waterford that takes about 90 minutes. It brings you right to the city, very close to the venue. It’s all really straightforward.
Tanya:
That makes it really accessible. No need to worry about taxis or complicated routes.
Dawn:
Exactly. It’s direct and simple. There are also trains, but I think the bus is the easiest, especially for those flying in.
Tanya:
Let’s talk about accommodation. What do you recommend for people staying the weekend?
Dawn:
Waterford has loads of options. There are plenty of hotels and Airbnbs within walking distance of the venue. I would suggest booking early, as it’s a busy time of year and we’re expecting a great turnout. Whether you’re looking for budget-friendly or something more luxurious, there’s something for everyone.
Tanya:
And what about the local area? Is there much to do for people bringing friends or family?
Dawn:
Absolutely! The venue is right in the heart of Waterford, so you’re surrounded by great restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. There’s a beautiful area called the Viking Triangle with museums and galleries, plus the Waterford Greenway for anyone who wants a scenic walk or cycle. You can definitely make a weekend of it.
Tanya:
It really sounds like the perfect host city. Now, for competitors — especially first-timers — do you have any advice?
Dawn:
Yes! Book your tan and glam early, those slots go quickly and it makes the day so much smoother. Also, don’t leave anything until the last minute. Read your competitor info emails carefully, and if you have questions, email Pure Elite or DM myself. We’re here to help.
Tanya:
That’s great advice. Anything else people should know before show day?
Dawn:
Just that we’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone. The venue is stunning, the team is incredible, and the energy is going to be amazing. Whether it’s your first competition or you’re returning, it’ll be an unforgettable experience.
Tanya:
I’m buzzing already, thank you so much for your time, Dawn.
Dawn:
Thank you. I can’t wait to see everyone in Waterford this September.
