Pro Bikini Masters Competitor - Dawn O'Sullivan

Pro Bikini Masters Competitor - Dawn O'Sullivan

Pure Elite: Welcome, Dawn! Can you tell us what categories you compete in?

Dawn O'Sullivan: I compete in Bikini Masters 45+.

Pure Elite: What motivates you to compete in bodybuilding?

Dawn O'Sullivan: I have so much passion for this sport. I love the daily focus it gives me to work towards my physique goals and how it challenges me mentally to overcome my anxiety disorder. Bodybuilding has changed my life in so many ways.

Pure Elite: Can you share a significant moment from your fitness journey that stands out to you?

Dawn O'Sullivan: Competing for the first time in Northern Ireland in 2020 was unforgettable. I had overcome so many mental obstacles to reach that stage. Winning my category and seeing my husband’s reaction backstage was a feeling I will never forget.

Pure Elite: Who or what inspires you to keep pushing towards your goals?

Dawn O'Sullivan: My fitness clients inspire me. Many struggle with mental health, anxiety, menopause, and obesity. I want to show them that they can overcome anything and achieve their goals if they try hard enough and want it enough.

Pure Elite: What advice would you give to someone aspiring to compete in bodybuilding or with Pure Elite?

Dawn O'Sullivan: 100% go for it! Set yourself a personal goal and work for it. Show day is life-changing in so many ways, and you’ll meet like-minded people who may become lifelong friends.

Pure Elite: What has been the biggest challenge you've faced in your fitness journey, and how did you overcome it?

Dawn O'Sullivan: I used to have panic attacks at the gym and would go home feeling like a failure. One day, I sat on the floor crying, but I refused to go home. I got up, continued my workout, and it was a huge turning point. Now, whenever it happens, I remind myself that I’m strong enough to push through.

Pure Elite: Why did you choose to compete with Pure Elite?

Dawn O'Sullivan: I chose Pure Elite because I heard how supportive the community is, with no egos. It’s a fantastically run federation, accepting of women with cellulite, stretch marks, and more. It offers so many opportunities for women who might not fit into traditional categories.

Pure Elite: What has been the highlight of your experience competing with Pure Elite so far?

Dawn O'Sullivan: Winning the Bikini Masters World title was incredible. The Over 45 category means so much to me—proving that women our age can achieve anything if they want it enough.

Pure Elite: How would you describe the community and support you’ve experienced with Pure Elite?

Dawn O'Sullivan: It’s second to none. I’ve competed in other federations, but nothing compares to Pure Elite’s support. I’ve made friends for life through this community.

Pure Elite: What are you most looking forward to at this year’s World Championships?

Dawn O'Sullivan: Meeting friends I haven’t seen since the last competition, and enjoying the backstage buzz and chats before going on stage!

Pure Elite: Is there any Pure Elite Pro you would like to compete against?

Dawn O'Sullivan: Anca Ward is my biggest inspiration. Give me 5-6 years to build a glutes like hers, and it might happen!

Pure Elite: Is there anything else you’d like to share with us, or a specific quote you would like us to use?

Dawn O'Sullivan: “At 47, I’m still pushing myself to improve my physical and mental health. By doing this daily, I’m ‘adding years to my life, and life to my years.’ Life is too short—just go for it!”

Meeting Dawn in July as I won the armature masters 45+ was so incredible, Dawn came back stage and had a photo with me with her crown on, truly beautiful woman and I loved reading your story. Maybe next photo we may both have crowns. See you soon Dawn, oh and don’t forget the doughnuts 😉
